Specialist Reports Activity Holidays Cycling Holidays Cycling Operators Outside UK

Cycling is something which can be combined relatively easily with children, in a seat or trailer when younger; on their own bikes as they get older. The development of traffic-free cycling routes should help make this safer for them, though road skills will always be important.

If the children are old enough to cycle themselves the activity will keep them fit, improves their co-ordination and of course helps wear them out. Operators with experience in this field do remark that the children are usually much fitter than parents (especially mums apparently), so your choice of tour will probably depend on parental fitness.

A rough calculation is that the infrequent cyclists will cover between 6 and 10 miles per hour at gentle pace so three hours will take you on the flat between 18 and 30 miles. Those who cycle regularly should average 10 to 15 miles per hour.
