A little father to travel than say Paris or Amsterdam, Rome has the advantage of being rather warmer than either of those. It also provides cultural attractions of interest to parents, and potentially children, especially if they are at the stage of covering the Romans at school. If history begins to pall, regular pitstops at the better pizzerie and gelaterie will to much to mollify reluctant sightseers.
