Scuba diving was apparently developed as a recreational activity in 1957 in the Cayman islands. It has grown in popularity ever since, and has seen a real boom in recent years.
Now that those who dive have children of their own, there is growth in family diving holidays, with some families reporting that the experience bring them closer because they can share the experience and discuss the day's events every evening.

For children there is also a learning benefit, getting them to learn about elements of science and calculation - focusing on air consumption at different depths for example - and potentially enthusing them about the marine world.

In addition to diving specialists, a number of tour operators now publish dedicated brochures. This reports looks at both of these types of operation. In addition most tailormade operators can organise diving as part of their holidays.
